For generations, tea has been more than a drink. It has been medicine, ceremony, and connection. Tea has traveled across continents and centuries, but I founded The Land of Milk & Honey Apothecary on the belief that the most important journey tea takes is the one within you.
My own tea journey began long before I ever blended a single herb for my company. It started in my childhood home and in the garden of an immigrant Antiguan woman who helped shape my relationship with tea itself. She is my Grandma Flo, who, with her love for plants and her quiet daily brews, made me my first cup of tea. And my journey began with her hands, her kitchen countertop herb collection, and her stories that planted the earliest seeds of my relationship to healing.
Years later, as a journalist covering race, culture, and the emotional lives of Black women, I found myself returning again and again to the same truth: we as a community carry so much, and we are not offered enough spaces to soften or just be. In the midst of reporting, producing, and holding others’ stories, I reached my own breaking point. Anxiety, panic disorder, and the weight of work pushed me to search for something that could hold me gently.
Then tea stepped in and brought me back to myself.
In 2021, I created my first blend that would become the inspiration for The Land of Milk & Honey Apothecary, a space rooted in nervous system support, ancestral plant medicine, and emotional well-being. A space created because I needed it, and I knew other women, especially Black women, needed it too.
Tea became a mirror, a moment, and a medicine. I knew peace at Grandma Flo’s kitchen table, sipping on her homemade blends. It also helped that she was a nurse, so as a child, anything she gave me felt like a cure. The kettle always hummed when she did. The steam carried with it a soft invitation to just be steady, intentional, unforced. Each cup was a form of memory work, and in them, the knowledge she carried from her home island to the U.S.
As I grew older, I realized that those moments weren’t just about tea. They were lessons in presence. Lessons in how to return to myself when the world felt impossible to face. Lessons in how ancestral knowledge lives not only in books, but in the small, consistent practices passed from the hands of one woman to the next. In many ways, my tea journey is an inheritance. One built through memory, plant medicine, and the sacred act of slowing down to hear myself.
When I found myself overwhelmed as an adult, juggling grief, deadlines, storytelling, and the pressure to keep showing up, it was tea that reminded me of the body’s quiet need to return to a space that felt like home. It offered a doorway back to the soft parts of myself that journalism and daily life often demanded I set aside.
At TLMH, we carry this lineage forward with blends created to meet you where you are. Our teas center nervines and adaptogens, plants known to support emotional balance, soothe the nervous system, and quiet the mind in a world that moves too fast and asks too much.
Before tea touches your lips, it begins with intention. The sound of water warming. The steam curling. The moment you pause.
This pause is sacred. Your mind settles. Your spirit re-centers. And the herbs begin their work, not just physically, but emotionally. Our blends are an invitation for tea to begin its journey within you.
Today, my own tea journey continues to evolve. It’s taking me through wellness spaces, holistic routines, and creating grounding rituals for those who crave a softer way of living. At TLMH, we’re about reconnecting tea to its essence as a vehicle for healing, connection, and emotional nourishment. As a Black-owned company, we also recognize that throughout the history of the African diaspora, herbal tea recipes rooted in ancestral knowledge have been used for protection, grounding, and cleansing. We blend our acknowledgement of tradition and modern science.
Yes, tea offers antioxidants, immune support, and digestive benefits. Science confirms what our ancestors already knew. Yet its deepest gift is the invitation to slow down and listen to your body through the effects different herbs have on your nervous system.
When you brew a cup, you practice presence.
When you sip intentionally, you practice care.
With each sip, you invite in softness.
With each exhale, you let something go.
With each cup, you return home.
When you choose herbs that support your wellness, you practice agency over your healing. Whether you are new to herbal teas or deep into your healing journey, each TLMH blend is designed to meet you exactly where you are.
Each blend we create at TLMH is meant to feel like comfort. Be Well carries the grounding energy your nervous system longs for after an overwhelming day. Elevate can help you untangle from your anxious thoughts at night, creating a pathway toward rest. And Journey nurtures tenderness, providing a gentle emotional lift when you can’t find your way in life’s ever-changing cycles. These blends are small rituals that remind you to choose softness, presence, and care, and one cup can shift the entire rhythm of your day. The plants we choose carry their own stories and wisdom, offering guidance to your nervous system on how to navigate through anxious thoughts, fatigue, restlessness, or emotional heaviness. The experience in each cup is gentle but transformative, an everyday practice with deeply felt benefits.
Your tea journey does not require ceremony or complexity. It simply asks for a moment. A willingness to slow down, to hold warmth in your hands, and to get back to the quiet knowing inside you.
This is the heart of any tea journey, and it begins wherever you choose to start.
